Abstract:
The collection consists of videos produced by various departments from the 1970s to 2006
at the California State University, Dominguez Hills, along with footage about CSUDH
produced by television news and other entities. The collection consists of ¾" Tape[20 & 30 minute],
VHS and Betamax medias that includes events videotapes, Faculty Forum Videotapes, Instructional
Media Video, Moot Court Videotapes and promotional and publication tapes.

History
California State University Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is currently located on land once part of the historic
Rancho San Pedro, the oldest land grant in Los Angeles. Through its development the University has
flourished establishing itself as a major commuter University for Southern Los Angeles and Northern Orange
County geographic region. Today the University attendance stands around 13,000 students. The content of
this collection documents the increasing use of visual media by students, staff, faculty, local and
national news media and other entities to broadcast academic shows, increase University exposure and
document important University events. This collection can be used as a forum for the many changes the
university has experienced from the late 1970s to the early 2000s.
Scope and Content
This collection includes events videotapes, Faculty Forum Videotapes, Instructional Media Video,
Moot Court Videotapes and Lyons Videotapes and promotional and publication tapes from the late 1970s
to the early 2000s. The media primarily used consists of ¾" Tapes [20 &30 Minutes,] VHS Cassettes,
Reel tapes and BETAMAX cassettes. The content of the tapes varied from University produced academic
shows, Moot Court, Student Video projects, local and national news media clips, faculty and staff
resource tapes and other CSUDH related tapes. The University Video Collection focuses on Campus
Development, History and planning.
"Comline with Frank Paine" was a popular marketing and development tool that included diverse
group of guests like President Gerth, Chinese Journalists Fan Zhilong and Tzhao Yibe, various University
Professors and media personalities.
"The Faculty Forum Series" dealt with more controversial issues through dialogue amongsts experts on
the issues. Topics included topics such as "Gays in the Military, Euthanisia and Foreign Affairs."
The Faculty Forum Series documents campus discussions on academics, research and recruitment of
students.
"The Moot Court Videos" focuses on debates held by the CSUDH Pre Law program at the College of
Business Administration and Public Policy. These videos were produced from the early to late 1980s
when footage of the Student’s participation in Regional finals was available.
The rest of the videos fall under the category of University Development and Outreach. Videos include
interviews with Congresswoman Juanita Millender McDonald on University and community achievements,
race relations with African Americans, post 9/11 America as well as Miguel Perez’ story on immigration
and University support. This series also tackles the wider use of computers in the campus, continued
exposure of the campus to local and national media including interviews of professors and University
personnel as well as the growing Student project video collection. Also included are tapes of NASA
Town Hall meetings that engaged the opinions of South Bay residents on the space program. All videos
encompass the University’s desire to engage and encourage the community through dialogue by means of a
visual media.
The last series in this collection contains videos of graduations, dedications, celebrations and
other events at CSUDH. These videos document landmarks and key figures and accomplishments in CSUDH’s
history.

"Comline with Frank Paine," "The Faculty Forum Series," "The Moot Court Series Videos," and the other
supporting videos represent the University’s strong internal growth in academics and the growing need for
University advertising.
