Scope and Content of Collection
Correspondence written by members of the Alexander family (Samuel J. and Ida A.) to their lawyer, W.C. Burnett; and Burnett�s
letters on the family�s behalf, regarding the legal status of William A. Alexander, who deserted from the U.S. Marine Corps
in 1899, just after the peace treaty that ended the Spanish-American War. Collection also contains correspondence between
Samuel J. (S.J.) Alexander and the family�s landlord, Dr. Alexander Warner, regarding disputes about their lease of Dr. Warner's
property located in the Ocean View district of San Francisco. Additionally there is one piece correspondence from U.S. Congressman
from California, Eugene F. Loud, to Alexander family attorney, W.C. Burnett, regarding the legal recourse available to Samuel
and Ida's brother, William A., to gain a pardon for his desertion from the U.S. Marine Corps.
