    History

Kappa Phi Zeta was an honorary professional library association founded in 1926 with six charter members on the initiative of Emily Collins Heyler and Katherine Fort Stickney. By November 10, 1926 the sorority was officially recognized by the Associated Students of the University of California at Los Angeles. In 1927, the organization received an organization charter as a professional honorary library sorority. Two years later, the Kappa Phi Zeta applied for and received the status of non-profit organization by the State of California. In 1931, the constitution and bylaws were approved, which established Kappa Phi Zeta as a national sorority. A Beta Chapter at the University of California briefly existed from 1928-1930.
