Abstract: Gordon Ray Young (1886-1948) was a journalist in Chicago and San Francisco, the literary editor of the
Los Angeles times, and author of over forty novels, including the Red Clark adventure books. The collection consists of manuscripts, periodicals,
three newsclippings, and six issues of
Adventure magazine from 1926 featuring Young's serial, “Treasure”, later published as a book.

Biography
Gordon Ray Young (1886-1948) in Ray County, Missouri; educated in Colorado; came to Los Angeles in 1913 after stints in journalism
and writing in Chicago and San Francisco; worked as literary editor of the
Los Angeles times before leaving to write full time; published over forty novels, including the Red Clark adventure books; individual titles
include
Savages (1921),
Wild blood (1922),
Hurricane Williams (1923),
Days of '49 (1925),
The Devil's passport (1933),
Red Clark of the Arrowhead (1935),
Huroc the avenger (1937), and
Quarter horse (1947).
Scope and Content
Collection consists of manuscripts, periodicals, and three newsclippings of
Los Angeles times literary editor and novelist Gordon Ray Young. Includes typescripts with holograph corrections of
Siebert of the island,
Gregory Pymson,
Mr. Beamish, and
Quarter horse. Also includes six issues of
Adventure magazine from 1926 featuring Young's serial, “Treasure”, later published as a book.
