Abstract: Eugen Joseph Weber (b.1925) was a professor (1956- ) and chairman of the department of history at UCLA (1965-68), dean of social sciences (1976-77), and dean of the College of Letters and Sciences (1977-82). The collection consists of Weber's notes, manuscripts, galley and proof sheets, correspondence, microfilm, and UCLA course lecture notes. Manuscripts include his A modern history of Europe, The western tradition: a book of readings, The European right: a historical profile, The nationalist revival in France, 1905-1914, My France: politics, culture, myth, France, fin de siècle, Action française: royalism and reaction in twentieth century France, and articles for journals.

Biography

Weber was born on April 24, 1925 in Bucharest, Romania; attended Institut d'études politiques, Paris, 1948-49, 1951-52; BA (1950), MA (1954) and M.Litt (1956), Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge; lecturer, University of Alberta, 1954-55; assistant professor, University of Iowa, 1955-56; assistant professor (1956), associate professor (1959-63), professor and chairman of the department of history, UCLA (1965-68); dean of social sciences (1976-77) and dean of the College of Letters and Sciences (1977-82), UCLA; published works include The nationalist revival in France, 1905-1914 (1959), Action française: royalism and reaction in twentieth century France (1962), Varieties of fascism: doctrines of revolution in the twentieth century (1964), Peasants into Frenchmen: the modernization of rural France, 1870-1914 (1976), France, fin de siècle (1986), and The hollow years: France in the 1930s (1994).
