The world: a journal for men and women. The collection consists of about 125 letters from Yates to various persons, and his personal diaries from the years 1878,
1879, 1882, 1884, and 1885.

Biography
Yates was born on July 3, 1831 in Edinburgh, Scotland; taken as an infant to London; published novels including
Black sheep (1857); in 1874 with Grenville Murray, he founded and served as editor-in-chief of
The world: a journal for men and women; he died on May 20, 1894 at the Savoy Hotel in London.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of about 125 letters from English novelist Edmund Yates to various persons, and Yates' personal diaries
from the years 1878, 1879, 1882, 1884, and 1885.
