Description
Henry M. Schacht (1916- ) served as the Farm Reporter columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle (1959-1993) and Vice President and Corporate Secretary of California Canners and Growers (1965-1981). His papers contain correspondence, manuscripts, serials, clippings, and promotional materials relating Schacht's work as a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle as well as his public relations activities for the California Canners and Growers organization.
Background
Henry M. Schacht was born on February 28, 1916 in Pasadena, California. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 1936, he joined the University's News Service as a radio writer. In 1939, he was appointed director of Press and Radio for the University of California, College of Agriculture, a post he held until 1942.
