Included are calling cards, programs from cultural and athletic events, illustrations, dance cards, invitations, notes and letters, tourist brochures, clippings, and photographs. Of note are the LSJU Fire Notice, listing the fire alarm whistles and the locations of hose carts and fire hydrants, ca. 1896; samples of cloth used for her wedding clothes and trousseau; and congratulatory letters on her marriage and the birth of her children. Additional miscellaneous items (housed in box 2) include a photograph of Edith and her brother Herbert Randall Straight, 1891; Edith's Stanford diploma, 1896; biography of Straight written by her granddaughter Anne Gay Hartman; and clippings and articles about Herbert R. Straight, 1941 and 1963.

Biographical/Historical Sketch

Edith Straight earned her A.B. in English at Stanford in May 1896; she married Frank Williams Hastings Jr. in 1898. They resided in Hackensack, New Jersey.
