Subseries Scope and Content Summary

Davis' writings are collected on public housing, product and interior design, and a historical overview of UC Berkeley architecture. One early design paper argues for boats as a model of environmental design. Using projects such as Summertree/Pajaro and Roosevelt Island as examples, he also writes on his housing philosophy and his teaching methods. IV. Office Records 1970-2005

A. Public Relations

B. Clippings

Subseries Scope and Content Summary

Includes articles about Davis and his projects throughout his career, which is divided into three sections: public and affordable housing, solar and other energy efficient methods, and interior design. Both his early award-winning Roosevelt Island design and later Lark-Inn project are well-represented in his housing work. The award-winning Summertree, its later actual manifestation the Pajaro condominium complex, and the California State Water Resources office building, are of note in the solar and energy efficient category.

C. Portfolio

Subseries Scope and Content Summary

Consists of two different portfolios. The first portfolio of early work is organized into three folders, by type of project, i.e., examples of his housing, commercial-institutional experimental, and design and graphics work. Importantly, some projects in the portfolio are without project files (however, these projects may have slides; see Project Index). These include the Marascuilo residence addition in El Cerrito, California; Dauntless Marina Condominiums in Essex, Connecticut; a home renovation in Berkeley, California; Wilbar's Boutiques in the Eastern U.S.; the Lebby Optometery Office in Thousand Oaks, California; Carriage House renovation in New Haven, Connecticut; and the Worthington-Hooker playground in New Haven, Connecticut. In addition, many unique examples of his designs and graphics are also contained. For the second portfolio, the many projects of Davis and his partner Joyce are represented and include floor plans and finished photographs, which are not contained in Project Records.
