Scope and Content Notes

This collection consists of a number of various items (mainly woodblock prints) that originated in Mongolia. Most of the items deal with aspects of Mongolian religious and cultural practices such as Buddhism, astrology, and music. The items are written in the Mongolian language and in some cases in Tibetan (possibly the Tibetan-based Phags-pa script that Khubilai Khan commissioned from a Tibetan Lama of that name in 1269 and used for official documents written in Mongolian during the Chinese Yuan Dynasty, 1279-1368).
