    Abstract: The Church of Scientology was developed in the U.S. in the 1950s by the author L. Ron Hubbard (1911-86) and was based on Dianetics, a form of psychotherapy originated by Hubbard and later incorporated into Scientology. The collection consists of materials related to the Church of Scientology including Hubbard Communications Office Executive letters and bulletins, operational manuals and student booklets, periodicals, printed materials and ephemera.

    Biography

    The Church of Scientology was developed in the U.S. in the 1950s by the author L. Ron Hubbard (1911-86); it was based on Dianetics, a form of psychotherapy originated by Hubbard and later incorporated into Scientology.

    Scope and Content

    Collection consists of materials related to the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles. Includes Hubbard Communications Office Executive letters and bulletins, operational manuals and student booklets, periodicals, printed materials and ephemera. Also includes a bibliography of books and articles relating to Scientology compiled by the Los Angeles Times.

    Expanded Scope and Content Note

    This collection consists of the following Church of Scientology materials: Hubbard Communications Office (HCO) Executive Letters, Policy Letters, and Bulletins; opperational manuals and student booklets; and periodicals, mailings, and flyers. Also included is an extensive bibliography, as well as some miscellaneous items--various printed materials, some class notes, an organization chart, Report forms, etc.
