Historical Note
ANTIOPE was built in Port Glasgow, Scotland by John Reid & Co. in 1866. She was acquired by Matson Navigation Company in 1899, and later sold a number of times. She was captured by the Japanese in the Vladivostok blockade during the Russo-Japanese War. She was used as a hulk by Paparoa Coal Co in New Zealand, and dismantled in Wellington where she lay until 1915, when she was again pressed into service. She was a storeship at an African port in 1922.

DAYLIGHT was built in Port Glasgow in 1902, and converted into a barge in 1924.
MERSEY was built in Glasgow in 1894 by Charles Connell & Co. In 1908, she was sold to the White Star Line, and registered
at Bridgetown, Barbados. She was used as a sailing cadet training ship in the Australian wheat and wool trades. In 1914, she
was sold to Transatlantic Motor Ship Co., Kristiania (modern day Oslo), Norway, and renamed TRANSATLANTIC. She was sold several
times in 1916-17, and renamed CHRISTIAN RADICH. In 1918, she was re-named yet again, as DVERGSO. She was ultimately sold to
British shipbreakers in 1923.
PACIFIC QUEEN was built in 1886 in Cardiff, Wales as BALCLUTHA. She was bought by Alaska Packers Association in 1904 and re-named
STAR OF ALASKA. In 1933, she was purchased by Fred Kissinger, and re-named PACIFIC QUEEN, and exhibited as a "pirate ship".
In 1954, she was purchased by the San Francisco Maritime Museum, who restored the vessel and restored her original name.
The collection was donated to the San Francisco Maritime Museum by Emil H. Peterson on September 30, 1959. The materials were
accessioned into the National Park Service when the museum was made a unit of Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GOGA-735)
and then were transferred to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park after the establishment of the new park in 1989
(SAFR-1).
