Acquisition Information

The majority of posters in this collection was given to the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library April 15, 2009. A smaller number of the posters were acquired in the Heritage Bookshop collection, a gift of Ben and Lou Weinstein in 2007.

Biography

The majority of the posters are from California International Antiquarian Book Fairs, which are sponsored by the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA) and have run since 1961. One poster is from the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) fair, sponsored by ILAB. Other posters are from the Boston International Antiquarian Book Fair, sponsored by the ABAA, which has taken place since 1976. The Santa Monica Book Fair was sponsored by American Book Fairs, Incorporated.

Scope and Content

This collection contains nineteen posters from fifteen book fairs that were held in California between 1963 and 2004. The majority of the posters are from California International Antiquarian Book Fairs; others are from an International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) fair, multiple Boston International Antiquarian book fairs, and a Santa Monica fair. All posters are paper and come in varying sizes; the width and height (respectively) in inches are listed for each poster.

Arrangement

This collection is arranged chronologically. Item numbers are located on the bottom right of each poster. The presence of an 'H' indicates the poster was originally from the Heritage Bookshop collection.
