    Processing of the Lantern slides collection was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside as part of the Special Collections & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2015. This project was funded by the UCR Library and administered by Jessica Geiser, Collections Management Librarian.

    Collection Scope and Contents

    This collection contains lantern slides depicting a variety of subjects, including geographical locations such as Israel, Palestine, and Mexico. There are several plates of landmarks in these geographical areas, including buildings, ruins, fountains, and mountains. The collection also includes plates of unknown individuals and historical figures, most notably George Washington.
    The majority of the slides in the collection include captions, with titles in brackets provided by the processor when no caption was present.

    The collection is arranged into three series as follows:
