    Abstract: This collection comprises photocopies of letters and photographs documenting the refugee experience of Tony D. Le and his sister, who spent time in Phanat Nikhom refugee camp in Thailand and Bataan refugee camp in the Philippines before arriving in the U.S. in 1989. Included are photocopies of letters, translated from Vietnamese to English, from Le's father in Vietnam to Le and his sister while they were in the camps. The photographs were taken at Bataan refugee camp. Also included are photocopies of Cambodian currency.

    Historical Background

    Tony D. Le, along with his sister, came to the U.S. in 1989 after fleeing Vietnam. Le spent two weeks in Cambodia, followed by two years in Phanat Nikhom refugee camp in Thailand and six months in Bataan refugee camp in the Philippines. His father first attempted to come to the U.S. in 1983 or 1984 on a sponsorship from his brother, but he only arrived in the U.S. in 1993, after his children arrived.
