    Scope and Content of Collection

    The collection mainly contains sound recordings and translations of transcripts of interviews of women veterans of the Chinese Long March of 1934-1935 used as research material for the book by Helen Praeger Young, Choosing Revolution: Chinese Women Soldiers on the Long March (Urbana, 2001). Additionally, the collection contains research material in both English and Chinese, such as biographical material about the women interviewed, the Long March, maps of China, caligraphy samples, and other printed material and drafts of various editions of the book with comments from editors and peers at the "Stanford Biographers Seminar."
