Description
The Jan Baum Gallery records include
correspondence; press kits containing newspaper clippings, price lists, curriculum vitae and
artists' statements; loan agreements; receipts; invitations; miscellaneous ephemera; and
photographic and audiovisual materials.
Background
The original Jan Baum-Iris Silverman Gallery opened on March 15, 1977 in Los Angeles.
Following the death of Iris Silverman, Jan Baum reopened the Gallery under her own name in
1981, continuing the gallery's focus on contemporary and African art, with a particular
emphasis on California artists. Baum retired and closed the gallery in 2007.
