    Biography

    There is little biographical or historical information available about press agent Frank Goodman or his firm, Frank Goodman Associates. From 1939 to 1961, Frank Goodman was a press agent, representing more than 50 Broadway productions and working with the likes of John Houseman, Orson Welles, Ethel Merman and Mary Martin, among others. He married Arlene Wolfe in 1937, and the couple worked together during their marriage. It is unknown when he started Frank Goodman Associates (or Frank and Arlene Goodman Associates) or when he starting publicizing productions for public television. He is credited for his role with helping to influence the development of Masterpiece Theatre. Goodman died at the age of 89 in NY, on February 3, 2006.

    Scope and Content

    The collection consists of publicity material created for public television productions, related to the publicist firm of Frank Goodman Associates. The bulk of collection includes press kits and black and white stills for the long running television drama series, Masterpiece Theatre and the classic PBS television series, Mystery!. Also included is a small amount of press material for PBS programming including Piccadilly Circus and BBC productions, among others. Some of the productions may have been publicized by Frank and Arlene Goodman Associates.
