    Historical Note

Organized in 1908 as a cooperative organization of lemon, grapefruit, and orange grove owners, The Lemon Grove Fruit Growers Association was affiliated with Sunkist growers. Originally, the plot of land (then known as La Mesa Springs) was purchased Robert Allison in 1869. As more farmers began to settle in the area during the early 20th century, there was considerable growth in the production of produce and livestock. By the mid-1920's, The Lemon Grove Fruit Growers Association was responsible for growing the largest crop of lemons and tomatoes in the Unites States.
