Abstract: Fyodor Sergeyevich Olferieff (aka Theodore Olferieff) was a Russian career military officer. The Fyodor Sergeyevich Olferieff papers includes biographical materials on Olferieff and his wife, original manuscript of his memoirs, Soviet Russia in the Orient typscript, photographs depicting members of the Olferʹev family in Russia and California, and memorabilia.

Biographical / Historical

Born into a noble family, Fyodor Sergeyevich Olferieff (who legally changed his name to Theodore when he came to the United States) was a Russian career military officer who observed firsthand key events of the early twentieth century, including the 1905-7 revolution, the Great War, the collapse of the imperial state, and the civil wars in Ukraine and Crimea.

Scope and Content of Collection

The collection contains biographical materials on Olferieff and his wife, original manuscript of his memoirs, photographs depicting members of the Olferʹev family in Russia and California, and memorabilia, such as an icon presented to Olferʹev on the 50th anniversary of his service in the Horse Grenadiers. Printed matter in the collection includes an account of the Alfer'ev (Olferʹev) family in the XV-XVII centuries and the second volume of Istorii︠a︡ leĭb-gvardii konno-grenaderskago polka (St. Petersburg, 1903), which chronicles the history of the Life Guard Horse Grenadier Regiment from 1803 to 1814, as well as a 1932 typescript: Soviet Russia in the Orient, relating to military defenses in the Soviet Far East.
