The collection is available for research only at the Library's facility in Los Angeles. The Library is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Researchers are encouraged to call or email the Library indicating the nature of their research query prior to making a visit.

Biography

Harry Canter was a member of the International Typographical Union, and Secretary of Local 16, Chicago. Upon retirement in the late 1960s Canter moved to San Francisco where he remained connected to union activities, civil rights and peace movements.

Scope and Content

The collection is a very small number of papers that includes Chicago Local 16 and San Francisco Local 21 correspondence, notes for a talk about racial discrimination in trade unions, fliers and agendas from the Northern California Committee of Trade Union Action and Democracy Rank and File Conferences in the early 1970s.
