Scope and Content of Collection
The collection contains correspondence from internationally renowned typographer and designer Bruce Rogers (1870-1957) to
Fred Rudge, Melvin Loos, and others, as well as manuscript and proofs of Rogers'
Paragraphs on Printing (William E. Rudge's Sons, 1943), and other design items, ca. 1920-1954. Rogers was born in Linwood, Indiana in 1870, graduated
from Purdue University in 1890, and collaborated with William E. Rudge's Sons, mainly during the period from about 1919 to
1928. During his lifetime he designed more than 500 books.
