Scope and Content of Collection

The collection contains diaries, photograph albums, loose photographs, and a scrapbook relating to Mildred A. Bonham, wife of Benjamin F. Bonham, who was appointed U.S. Consul to British India, in Calcutta, 1885-1894. Materials pertain both to time at home in Oregon and in Calcutta.

Mrs. B. F. Bonham / Calcutta India, March 15, 1888 - covers time in Calcutta as well as a family visit to Colombo (Ceylon, now Sri Lanka). Back cover and second half of diary are severely water damaged. Subjects include involvement with the church, including missionary work; meeting Lord Dufferin; social gatherings and family matters, Mar. 15, 1988-July 18, 1889

Blue velvet album with 18 portraits, taken primarily in Calcutta and Idaho, some identified on backs. Many photos coming loose.

Small leather tooled album with metal accents with 49 portraits, mostly of the Bonham family and taken in Oregon. Includes two tin types.
