Biographical History

Ione Parker Glaser was born on January 21, 1921 in San Jose, California to James Dayley Parker and Hazel Hannah Francis Parker. James was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on October 8, 1888 and Hazel was born in Elko, Nevada on October 23, 1898. The couple married on October 16, 1919 in San Jose, where James worked as a laborer in a cannery. Ione's brother Delbert F. was born on June 2, 1922. The Parker family moved back to Nevada when Ione was in second grade. Back in Elko, James worked as a mechanic in a garage.
Along with many other young adventurers, Loran W. Glaser's grandfather, Mathias Glaser, emigrated from Germany to America in 1850 at the age of thirty-seven years. After traveling around the country, Mathias finally settled in Elburz, Elko County, Nevada where he bought a large ranch. Loran's father, Walter A. Glaser, was born at the ranch on October 30, 1892 and his mother, Kathryn L. Glaser, was born on October 9, 1899 in Buffalo, New York. The couple married on August 22, 1917 at the ranch in Elburz. Loran was born on May 7, 1919 and his brother Darlow was born in 1921. Three generations of Glaser's worked raising cattle and horses on the ranch in Elburz.
Loran and Ione married on July 30, 1938 in Eureka, Nevada. The couple had a son Richard, born on February 16, 1940 and a daughter Sheryl, born on June 22, 1943. Both children were born in Elko, Nevada. While serving in the military in San Antonio, Texas in 1963, Richard met Jane Russey, whose father also was in the military. The couple married in San Antonio on April 9, 1964 and returned to the ranch in Elburz after Richard completed his military service.
By 1971, Loran and Ione had decided to sell the ranch and move to California. Richard and Jane moved first to Roseville in May of 1971. After the ranch in Elburz sold, Loran and Ione left in October of 1971 to join their son and daughter-in-law and bought acreage in Roseville. The property in West Roseville was off of what is now Cook Riolo Rd., between PFE and Baseline Rd. on 2830 Glaser Lane. The Glaser's had always raised horses, but after the move to Roseville they concentrated on quarter horses and cutting horses, horses trained to separate individual animals from a cattle herd. Loran and Ione spent much of their time traveling to horse shows, primarily in Colorado. Ione also maintained a flower garden at her home and soon joined the Sacramento Arrangers Guild, a flower arranging organization. As a charter member, she helped organize the Roseville Arrangers Guild in October 1976 and served as president from 1994 to 1999.
Loran W. Glaser died on October 27, 2003. The following year Ione P. Glaser died on November 20, 2004. The Roseville Arrangers Guild held a memorial for Ione at the Roseville Moose Lodge. The family sent the couple's ashes to Nevada to be interred.
