    Scope and Content

    Collection consists of printed and manuscript materials on the teaching of philosophy in France, bound in four old leather volumes.

    Paris à la fin du moyen âge et encore au XVIº siècle a joué un rôle de premier plan dans le développement de la culture. Les méthodes d'enseignements étaient basées sur le commentaire des auteurs de l'antiquité. Les professeurs faisaient donc spécialement inmprimer pour leurs cours des morceaux choisis, des chapitres, ou des livres entiers d'auteurs anciens, grecs out latins. L'annonce par le Collège de France et l'édition d'une affiche à cent effet, par Wechel, concernant la vente de ces livrets avait même déclanché une véritable "affaire des placards". Ces opuscules ne comportent parfois que quelques pages. Quelquefois ce sont de véritables volume de plus de 100 pages.
    Tous ces ouvrages, tirés à petit nombre et mailtraités par les élèves sont très rares. Souvent l'impression est à grande marge, et la composition espacée pour permettre l'introduction de corrections de textes out de commentaires.
    Cette collection comporte au total 70 pièces, plus trois manuscrits. Plus de la moitié des imprimés sont annotés, parfois, entièrement couverts de notes de professeurs ou d'élèves.
    Des trois manuscrits joints à cet ensemble, il nous parait important d'attirer l'attention sur celui de Gaultier de Chalon, qui est un témoignage précieux de la vie universitaire, et qui, de plus, nous a conservé la forme originale d'un cours du médecin: Jean Riolan, (le père), l'un des plus célèbres médecins du XVIº siècle.
