Description
Marguerite Lorain Etzel Smart was born on October 16, 1920 in Roseville to Leroy and Minnie M. Quigley Nugent Etzel. Marguerite attended local schools and graduated from Roseville Union High School in 1936 at the age of fifteen. The Marguerite Etzel Smart Collection is arranged in five series: 1. Albums/Scrapbooks, 2. Publications, 3. Ephemera, 4. Realia/Artifacts, and 5. Photographic Material. Items span the years 1885 to 2000.
Background
Marguerite Lorain Etzel Smart was born on October 16, 1920 in Roseville to Leroy and Minnie M. Quigley Nugent Etzel. LeRoy was born in Placerville on August 4, 1890 and Minnie was born in Indiana on May 10, 1891. The couple married in 1916 and lived at 600 Oak St. in Roseville. Marguerite's sister Bette Mae was born on March 5, 1927. LeRoy then worked as an electrician for the railroad and the City of Roseville before becoming superintendent of the Pacific Fruit Express. He also served as a director for the Roseville Telephone Co. from 1930 to 1965. Minnie worked as a stenographer for C. B. McCrae, a local businessman.
