Vista during time of unrest, from the perspective of a university administrator and faculty member.

Robert O. Collins was born April 1, 1933 in Waukegan, Illinois. He received his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth in 1954,
a bachelor's (1956) and master's (1960) in history from Balliol College, and a master's (1958) and Ph.D. (1959) in history
from Yale. He was the Director of the Center for Developing Nations in 1968 before relocating to Santa Barbara to become a
professor of history at UCSB. Specializing in African history, primarily of the Nile area and Sudan, Collins wrote and co-wrote
over 30 books, including the controversial
Alms for Jihad. In addition to teaching as a professor and professor emeritus for nearly 40 years, he served in various administrative roles,
including Associate Dean (1969) and Dean (1970-1980) of Graduate Division. Collins died April 11, 2008.
Scope and Content of Collection
The collection contains two copies of Collins' diary, mainly relating to UCSB affairs, and especially events relating to Isla
Vista during time of unrest, from the perspective of a university administrator and faculty member. There is no container
