    Abstract: William F. Allewelt (1926-2010) served as Chief Executive Officer of Tri Valley Growers from 1966-1985. His Papers contain correspondence, speeches, and files related to his involvement with Tri Valley Growers, Sun-Diamond Growers of California, and the University of California Agricultural Issues Center.

    Biography

    William F. Allewelt was born on May 29, 1926 in Sacramento to William Sr. and Alta Jane Clapp Allewelt. He entered the Army Air Corps following graduation from C.K. McClatchy High School. The GI Bill brought him to the University of California, Davis where he served as editor of the Cal Aggie newspaper and as student body president. He completed his degree in Agricultural Economics at the University of California, Berkeley.
    In 1955 he joined Turlock Cooperative Growers, a canning cooperative in Modesto, and became its general manager. In 1963, TCG merged with a companion cooperative to form Tri Valley Growers. Allewelt served first as its general manager and later as CEO from 1966 until retiring in 1985. Shortly after retiring, he served as interim CEO at Sun-Diamond Growers of California.
    In 1985, he was appointed a charter member of the advisory board to the University of California Agricultural Issues Center. He served as its chair from 1986 to 2000 and its vice-chair from 1987 until his retirement from the board in 2007.
    He also served on the board of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, as a trustee of the UCD Foundation, and chaired the major gifts committee funding the UCD Alumni and Visitors Center.
    Allewelt passed away on October 15, 2010.
