Biography

Samuel S. Smyth, during the Civil War, was a captain in the Illinois Light Artillery, 1st Regiment (Vol.) Battery F. For information relating to the 1st, see : Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Illinois, Volume VIII, revised by Brigadier General J. N. Reece (1901).

Scope and Content of Collection

The collection contains originals and photostats of correspondence and journals, 1862-1864. There also is a microfilm copy, which has been cataloged separately (Wyles E601 S6).
