San Dieguito Boys' and Girls' Clubs
Identification of item, folder title, box number, San Dieguito Boy' and Girls' Club Records, Special Collections and University
Archives, San Diego State University Library.
The San Dieguito Boys' Club, a part of Boy's Clubs of America, was organized to help meet the needs of youth in the fast-growing
San Dieguito area. Through the efforts of the Encinitas Optimist Club and the San Dieguito Kiwanis Club, the San Dieguito
Boys' Club was founded in October, 1966. The first clubhouse was opened in a motel recreation room on Highway 101 and A Street
in Encinitas.
In September 1974, a pilot program was initiated to meet the needs of girls in the community from 7-18 years of age, who were
invited to participate in programs at the Lomas Santa Fe and Encinitas Branch clubhouses. Both Boys' and Girls' Club members
receive leadership and guidance from a trained staff.
Club dues are purposely kept low so that no child is unable to join. If they wish, young people are given an opportunity to
earn membership. The San Dieguito Boys' and Girls' Clubs receive funding from United Way of San Diego.
