Abstract: John Hutchinson (b.1921) was a professor of industrial relations at the UCLA Graduate School of Management (1964- ), a arbitrator in industrial disputes a member of the American Political Science Association, and author of articles on politics and industrial relations. The collection contains correspondence, reports, and economic data on various unions, including the Building Service Employees International Union (BSEIU), the IATSE, Teamsters Union, and United Textile Workers of America (UTWA).

Biography

Hutchinson was born on January 29, 1921 in London, England; BS (1950), Ph.D (1963), University of London; MA, UCLA, 1952; worked as a civil servant in Great Britain; associate professor (1964-70), then professor of industrial relations at the UCLA Graduate School of Management; has been an arbitrator in industrial disputes; member, American Political Science Association; author of articles on politics and industrial relations; wrote The imperfect union: a history of corruption in American unions (1970).

Scope and Content

Collection contains correspondence, reports, and economic data on various unions, including the Building Service Employees International Union (BSEIU), the IATSE, Teamsters Union, and United Textile Workers of America (UTWA). Also includes clippings gathered by John Hutchinson for his book, The imperfect union: a history of corruption in American trade unions (1970).
