Biographical/Historical Sketch

Professor of Biology at Stanford (1931-1955); Dean of the School of Biological Sciences (1946-1949); Dean of Graduate Studies (1948-1951); Dean of Humanities and Sciences (1951-1952). Acting Vice-President of the University (1948-1949); and Provost (1952-1955). Also served as chief biologist for the Bikini atom bomb tests.
