Biography
Motion picture posters have been used to publicize movies almost since the beginning of the film industry. Poster designs
have become permanently associated with the films they promote, often acting as symbols of the films for collective memory.
Frequently film posters outlive thier intended marketing purpose and assume the role of iconic images in film history and
culture at large.

Scope and Content
The collection consists of film posters dating from ca. 1924 to 1996, with the bulk of the collection dating from the early
1950s-1996. The collection consists of posters for primarily American released films and includes 1,200 plus film titles.
The posters represent a variety of film genres which were produced by various studios including Columbia Pictures, 20th Century
Fox, MGM, Paramount, Universal, United Artists, and Warner Brothers, among others.
