    Biographical Note

    1926: Born, Paris.
    1940: Immigrated to the United States.
    1943: Joined the U.S. Army, served with the OSS in France during Operation Jedburgh.
    1945: Captured by the Viet Minh while serving in Vietnam, held as a prisoner of war for 11 months.
    1964: Finished in second place in the Tour de France.
