    Abstract: Harlan Thompson was a writer of western novels for young people, sometimes published under the pseudonym, Stephen Holt; international president of P.E.N., 1958-59; won Boys' Clubs of America gold medal for Prairie Colt in 1948, and Commonwealth Club juvenile silver medal for Spook, The Mustang in 1957; other publications include Wild Palomino (1946), Star Roan (1952), and Stormy (1955). Collection consists of manuscripts and books by Thompson.

    Biography

    Thompson was born on Dec. 25, 1894 in Brewster, KS; attended Univ. of Southern CA, 1917-19; became writer of western novels for young people, sometimes published under the pseudonym, Stephen Holt; international president of P.E.N., 1958-59; won Boys' Clubs of America gold medal for Prairie Colt in 1948, and Commonwealth Club juvenile silver medal for Spook, The Mustang in 1957; other publications include Wild Palomino (1946), Star Roan (1952), and Stormy (1955); he died in Oct. 1987.

    Collection consists of manuscripts and books by Harlan Thompson. Manuscripts include Outcast, Stallion of Hawaii, Phantom Roan, The Ranch Beyond The Mountains, Spook, The Mustang, and Whistling Stallion.
