Biographical/Historical Sketch
First president of Stanford University (1891-1913), Jordan was an ichthyologist and naturalist. He was an active conservationist,
a founding member of the Sierra Club, and served on numerous governmental commissions.
Views taken by Jordan while serving on the Pribilof Fur Seal Commission in the summer of 1897. The collection includes views
of fur seal rookeries on St. Paul Island and St. George Island, Alaska. Primarily gelatin dry plates.
