Biography/Organization History
Edward Wah Gee (January 10, 1910-August 19, 1980), the eldest son of Quong Leong Gee and Mary Tom Gee, was born in Oroville,
California and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in civil engineering. He was the owner
of a real estate business in San Francisco, California's Chinatown.
Scope and Content Note
Contains mostly personal handwritten and typescript correspondence. The bulk of this correspondence consists of incoming letters
to Mabel Gee (Mrs. Edward W. Gee) and other family members from Mabel's brother L. C. Lee (also referred to as Lu Chao Li
and "Brother Chew"). L.C. Lee was educated at an American university and acted as English secretary to Chinese leader Sun
Yat-sen. These letters are in both Chinese and English and date from the 1920s through 1981. The collection also includes
assorted other letters letters to and from Edward W. Gee, Mabel Gee, and Sherman Gee. In addition, the collection contains
business cards and blank stationary from Edward W. Gee's real estate business; a history of the Gee family, written by Herbert
W. Gee in 2001; the family's immigration and entry documents relating to 1928 and 1938 journeys from Hong Kong to the port
of San Francisco, including steamer tickets, vaccination cards, and immigration photographs; and a brochure for the third
Tom/Hom family reunion in Marysville, California in 2008.
