    The sketchbooks are arranged chronologically, except for recent acquisitions which are filed at the end.


    Best known for his monotype work, Phillips was born in New York City in 1927. He studied at the University of Chicago (MA 1952) and attended Stanford 1952-1954. He later traveled in Europe and taught at Pennsylvania State University.
