    Abstract: This collection contains the professional papers of Arthur J. Marder. It contains primarily manuscripts and research materials used for four of his historical works on the British Navy in the 20th century, and correspondence with British naval officers, which includes military documents, memoirs, and reports. The collection also contains photographs, teaching materials, and some files documenting Marder's professional activities.

    Biography

    Arthur J. Marder was a renowned historian of British naval history. He joined the University of California, Irvine faculty in 1964 as a founding member of the History faculty. He was Professor Emeritus of History and later retired in 1977. He wrote more than 12 books on the history of the Royal Navy from the pre-dreadnought era through the First and Second World Wars. Marder died in 1980.
