Abstract: The Dickens Fellowship was founded on October 6, 1902. The organization's purpose continues to be to create a common bond
of friendship between admirers of English novelist Charles Dickens (1812-70) and to preserve properties associated with Dickens
and his works. The collection consists of letters pertaining to Charles Dickens written to J.W.T. Ley, secretary and later
vice-president of the Dickens Fellowship, London, from various persons writing in response to information requested by Ley
for his book,
The Dickens Circle (1918).

Biography
The Dickens Fellowship was founded on October 6, 1902, and maintains a headquarters at the Dickens House on Doughty Street
in London; now with an international membership, the organization's purpose continues to be to create a common bond of friendship
between admirers of English novelist Charles Dickens (1812-70) and to preserve properties associated with Dickens and his
works.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of letters pertaining to Charles Dickens written to James W. T. Ley, secretary and later vice-president
of the Dickens Fellowship, London, from various persons. Many were family members, friends and acquaintances of Dickens, writing
in response to information requested by Ley for his book,
The Dickens Circle (1918). Correspondents include Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Sir James Barrie, Marie Corelli, Sir Henry Fielding Dickens, Jerome
K. Jerome, Leo Tolstoy, and Jules Verne.
