Biography

Maxwell Hunley Rare Books was an antiquarian book firm originally located in Beverly Hills, California and later in Pasadena and South Pasadena, California. Maxwell Hunley moved to Los Angeles in 1930, where he began his career as an antiquarian bookseller. His specialties were American and English literary classics, but he also sold western Americana, fine press books, tooled leather bindings, juveniles, color-plate books and prints. One of Hunley's important early customers was Estelle Doheny. The majority of his sales were made to institutions, including the Huntington Library.
