    Scope and Contents

This file contains the hard bound journal, handwritten in ink and pencil, by Charles E. Miller. The book is in good condition with the spine intact. The hand writing is clear, beautiful, and legible throughout. Some wear has occurred over the years to the corners of the book, but they do not affect the writing. The journal details the many different cruises that Mr. Miller was a passenger on between 1879 and 1880. He details several cruises on board the yacht "Laura", detailing the passengers and crew, the weather conditions, and places sailed to and most descriptions are accompanied by a hand drawn sketch detailing the location. He also describes a "race from Valljeo" in which he vividly recalls a yacht race through San Francisco Bay. The journal goes on to describe several camping trips to places such as Yosemite, Big Trees, and a trip to Stockton. The entries describing Yosemite and Big Tres are accompanied by exquisite hand drawn sketches of Vernal Falls and Half Dome.
