Folder consists of the entire April 1929 issue of California Arts & Architecture which contains an article written by John Byers entitled “The Influence of Adobe in California: A Traditional Adaptation.” In this article Byers discusses the following projects that he designed: Mr. H. R. Johnson adobe (Brentwood, Calif. ), Camulos ranch house replica, the L. H. French house (Tas Turas Lake, Calif.), and the Mr. Earl B. Gilmore house.

Folder consists of the entire October 1946 issue of Architect and Engineer which contains an article written by John Byers entitled “Adobe Houses”. In this article Byers discusses eight of his own projects: Bradbury house (Santa Monica, Calif.), Ignacio del Valle adobe replica (Pacific Palisades, Calif.), Rancho La Brea adobe restoration (Los Angeles, Calif.), Curtis Peck adobe (San Fernando Valley, Calif.), P. G. Winnett house (Santa Monica, Calif.), the Mrs. E. W. Zimmers house (Santa Monica, Calif.), Kemper Campbell ranch (Victorville, Calif.), and John Byers’ office (Santa Monica, Calif.).

Clippings and entire articles were taken from the following architectural and news publications: The Los Angeles Times, Engineering and Construction, The American Architect, Arts & Architecture, House & Garden, Country Life Style in America, Arts & Decoration, and Pencil Points.

Scope and Content note

Series comprises architectural drawings (sketches, original plans, and reprographic copies), photographic prints, negatives, slides, postcards, specifications, office lists, letters, clippings and entire articles, which document John Byers' various architectural projects, all organized by client's last name. The majority of architectural drawings document interior and exterior details, most of which are drawn full scale. The last subseries, unidentified consists of photographs and architectural drawings which lack identifying information such as client's name, location of buildings, and date. Projects which are documented in this series range from circa 1917 to circa 1945. Circa dates were used in instances where materials lacked dates. Location of project is unknown unless specified in subseries title.
