Abstract: This collection consists almost entirely of letters addressed to American editor and author Albert Bigelow Paine (1861-1937).
The correspondence, with the bulk dating from 1891-1934, provides a picture of the literary and newspaper field of Paine's
time. In addition to Paine's professional correspondence,
there are also family letters in the collection.

Biographical Note
Albert Bigelow Paine (1861-1937) was an American editor and author. He established
and directed the Combined Press, edited the children's page of the New York Sunday
Herald and the League Department of St. Nicholas Magazine, and was reader and
solicitor general for the Henry Altemus Company. Designated by Mark Twain as his
official biographer, Paine wrote a three volume biography of Twain which was
considered the finest work of its kind in his day
Scope and Content
This collection consists almost entirely of letters addressed to Paine (there are
only nine letters by Paine himself). The correspondence provides a picture of the
literary and newspaper field of Paine's time. In addition to Paine's professional
correspondence, there are also family letters in the collection.
