Biographical / Historical
Lawrence Tritle served as a professor of history at Loyola Marymount University from 1978 to 2017. A Vietnam War veteran,
Tritle studied war and violence, authoring several publications on the topic. In May of 2003, Dr. Tritle unveiled the World
War Studies Research Room in the history department. Informally called "The War Room," it contained donated material primarily
related to the two world wars. Many of these material make up the Lawrence A. Tritle Collection. Tritle's father, a World
War II aerial gunner, is the source of many items in the collection. Other materials come from fellow LMU professors, as well
as community members.
Scope and Contents
The bulk of this collection contains items such as newspapers, documents, handbooks, and photographs from the World War II
era with select items originating from World War I.
