It took part in Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg campaigns, played an important role in Ulysses S. In the spring of 1865, the Regiment was separated from the Iron Brigade, and assigned to duty at Camp Butler, Illinois. In May 1865, the regiment was part of the honor guard at Lincoln's Funeral in Springfield, Illinois. It was mustered out on June 30, 1865.
