    Existence and Location of Copies

    The majority of this collection has been digitized and may be viewed at the Grateful Dead Archive Online (GDAO)  

    Scope and Contents

    This collection consists of 437 original photographs and contact sheets of the Grateful Dead and related artists, as well as the San Francisco music scene, primarily in the late 1960s. Also included are images of the Dead in the 1970s, 1980s, and 2004. Many of these photographs were created for Greene's 1990 book, Book of the Dead: celebrating 25 years with the Grateful Dead. Unless otherwise noted, the majority of the prints are black and white.
