Description
The collection includes materials pertaining to the company town of the Little River Redwood Company, called first Bulwinkle,
then Crannell. There is a ledger book, No. 1, L.R.R. Co., with entries as early as 1906, Index to the Affidavits of Registration
for the voter precincts of Little River (1912, 1914, 1922, 1926) and Crannell (1944, 1946) and minutes books of the Crannell
Womens Club (1920-21, 1922-28, 1939-43, 1949-51.) Additionally, there is a scrapbook about the Happy Planters Club (1956-63).
Background
From the estate of William Conrad Balke and his wife Mildred, donated by his great nephew and wife, Robert Lee and Patti Balke,
in 1998 when they sold the home that had been in the family since the late 1800s. "Uncle Bill" died ca 1993. He was the son
of Herman Conrad Balke and Maggie Peters Balke. Conrad Bullwinkle was Herman Conrad Balke's uncle (Herman's mother's brother).
