The Lynn Beldner Punk Music Photograph Collection was acquired by the Stanford Archive of Recorded Sound from Lynn Beldner in 2019.

Biographical / Historical

Lynn Beldner is an American photographer and visual artist.

Beldner holds a degree from the San Francisco Art Institute and has exhibited her works at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Riverside Art Museum, California; the Jewish Museum, San Francisco and the San Jose Museum of Art, California. She has received the James Phelan Award from the San Francisco Art Institute, the Public Glass Residency and Paulson Bott Residency.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains photographs and ephemera amassed by photographer Lynn Beldner pertaining to the Punk and New Wave music scenes in the San Francisco area, dating from 1980-1984. Comprised primarily of music perfomances, artists covered include Iggy Pop, Dead Kennedys, Plasmatics, U2, Lou Reed, The Ramones, Laurie Anderson, The Tubes and Bay Area bands The Pseudos, The Bruces, Crucifix, Whipping Box and No Sisters.

Also included are 3 x 5 inch postcard prints from Belder's first gallery exhibit at the Freightdoor Gallery.

This Series is arranged into three subseries: Contact sheet and prints, Negatives and Freight Door Gallery post card prints.

Scope and Contents

This series contains photograph prints, negatives and contact sheets of photographs taken by Lynn Beldner documenting the Punk and New Wave music scenes within the Bay Area dating from 1980-1984. Included are photographs from the audience and stage of artists Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Bow Wow Wow, U2, Fear, Crucifix as well as promotional and band practice photographs for the bands the Bruces and the Pseudos.
