Description
Photographic Prints that have been digitized and placed on the DAMS and Flickr. They have been assigned a 09 Series Number. Image from the Henthorpe collection. Arthur Henthorpe was an American railroad engineer, who went to France during WWI to help out with the war effort. About the photos, he wrote in 1977, “…they were taken by French aviators who were billeted near Souilly, Meuse, where I switched cars nights [during] the fall and winter of 1917. These aviators were wonderful guys and seemed to take a liking to us and went out of their way to be friendly." They gave Arthur these photos.
